Partner Russ Briggs Speaks at North American Brain Injury Society Legal Conference

Fibich, Leebron, Copeland & Briggs

Houston Trial Attorney and Fibich, Leebron, Copeland & Briggs Partner Russ Briggs was a featured speaker at the 31st Annual Conference on Legal Issues in Brain Injury. Organized by the North American Brain Injury Society (NABIS), the conference is being held from March 14th through the 17th in Houston, Texas, and runs concurrently with the NABIS’s Brain Injury Across the Age Spectrum: Improving Outcomes for Children and Adults medical conference.

As a nationally regarded trial lawyer who is Board Certified in Personal Injury Trial Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, Russ has extensive experience protecting the rights of victims who suffer serious and catastrophic injuries, including traumatic brain injuries (TBI). His experience handling brain injury lawsuits has made him keenly aware of the unique needs of victims and common issues they face in personal injury litigation, as well as a trusted resource for educating fellow members of the legal profession who handle these challenging claims.

As a guest lecturer on the first day of the NABIS conference, Russ joined other top trial attorneys and medical experts in discussing a range of practical information involving the latest medical and legal literature, case law, testing and rehabilitative therapy, case management, trial techniques, and advanced demonstrative evidence used in brain injury cases. Attorneys attending the event receive Continuing Legal Education (CLE) credits, as well as insight from proven lawyers to guide them through tackling the latest legal and medical issues related to brain injury science, testing, treatment, and trial work.

Because victims and their families often suffer profound losses following traumatic brain injuries, protecting their rights, effectively illustrating damages, and proving fault and liability in litigation is critical to securing the compensation they need. However, brain injuries are also unpredictable in nature, affect victims differently, and involve complex medical issues that may not always be understood by laymen, which makes litigating TBI cases before juries and judges a challenge for any legal professional. As Russ notes when discussing his presentation on Lay Witnesses in the Traumatic Brain Injury Setting:

“Often times, juries will disregard the expert witnesses for each side and decide the case on the testimony of lay witnesses, those persons who can testify as to the observed losses experienced by the Plaintiff. This is especially true in mild traumatic brain injury cases where the injuries are not physically apparent to the jury.”

By addressing these issues in his lecture, Russ enables attorneys across the country to effectively advocate for clients who have suffered all types of brain injuries, and establishes himself as an authority with the insight, experience, and reputation for securing positive results in TBI litigation. Our firm is proud to be led by attorneys like Russ who not only allow us to fight for the results our clients need, but who also share their knowledge to help other attorneys and legal service providers in doing the same.
